Ox Race in Ta Miet
Every year in October the Bay Nui ox race takes place in An Giang (Tri Ton District, about 50 km west of Long Xuyen). Traditionally it is held on the Khmer Dolta holiday. It originates from the custom that families who have an ox bring it to the farmlands of the clergy to plough the fields for the next season.
Later the result has been an ox race and at the same time a traditional Khmer festival, which became a unique tourist attraction in An Giang.
There are always two ox teams with one jockey each, which race against each other.
